Town Meeting
Tuesday, April 12th, 7:00 pm
There will be two articles on the 2011 Warrant that are related to The West Tisbury Free Public Library’s plans to expand:
Article 18. Approval of Project.
To see if the Town will vote to authorize the renovation and expansion of the West Tisbury Free Public Library contingent on the receipt of an MBLC construction grant and donation of private funds, which together will cover 75% of the total project costs.
Article 19. Authorization to apply for grants.
To see if the Town will vote to authorize the West Tisbury Selectmen to apply for, accept, and expend any state grants which may be available for the renovation and construction of an addition to the West Tisbury Free Public Library.
Neither article commits the town to raise or appropriate funds.
Neither article requires the town to approve the design when the project is presented for town approval in April of 2012.
PLEASE COME TO TOWN MEETING!
MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!

Historian, author and neighbor, David McCullough, addresses the crowd at the August 2010 “After Hours” fundraising event in the backyard of the West Tisbury Free Public Library.
David is always eloquent when he talks about the history of libraries in America and their fundamental value to the achievement of the goals of the Founding Fathers.
Among many of the encouraging factoids offered is the note that there are more libraries in this country than there are McDonalds restaurants.
David grew up in Pittsburgh where, from boyhood, he used one of the first Carnegie libraries in the country. That experience made a lasting impression which influenced his path as a teacher and historian.
Mr. McCullough is the Honorary Chairman of the Library’s fund drive for the 2012 renovation project. He and his wife, Rosalee, were early contributors and would be very happy to be joined by everyone in the community.

This Library has great books that I want to read and a friendly, welcoming, helpful staff. It’s a very safe and therapeutic place. I especially appreciate the biography section and the knitting and art books. The Library needs more space for meetings, community gatherings, movies and art exhibits that’s accessible for all.
